WHAT'S GOING ON IN TUNISIA ?

In recent days, the international media have put their spotlight on Tunisia where things are reportedly very messy again.
President Kais Saied, in particular, has to take the brunt of it. The man has been democratically elected in 2019 with an overwhelming majority of votes. They can't say anything about that so they grab him where they think they can grab him. Mismanagement. Dictatorial behavior and racism.
A similar playbook as we have seen with Husein, Khadafi and other state leaders. Last night, the Flemish national channel VRT, even devoted in its interpretative magazine Terzake, a full report on Tunisia and its president. It featured citizens complaining about inflation, increased food and energy prices, market shortages and low wages. And yes, out of a total population of 12.5 million, they also found a handful of them accusing the President of ruling like an outright dictator due to which, allegedly, there would be a mass exodus of Tunisians fleeing to the EU in the hope of a better life and higher wages.
All neatly orchestrated. In preparation of a " coup d'état" in which the president will be ousted. Not because he is not doing his job well but because he is doing his job too well, denouncing all kinds of malpractices and not hesitating to kick the elites in the shins, divulge their vicious plans and set his own course leaning towards BRIC.
What's really going on here ?
On 23 March 2023, President Kais Saied stated during a speech that Tunisia is not for sale. That was a clear message.
A week later, he showed the IMF the door. They offered a lot of money however linked to conditions which President Saied refused.
The IMF is a United Nations agency whose top brass, no doubt, cannot appreciate the man not playing their game.
Since taking office as President, Saied has made a big clean-up in the hive of corrupt politicians. In July 2021, he sacked his prime minister ( Hichem Mechichi ) and defense and justice ministers and suspended parliament for 30 days. This was met with cheers from almost all Tunisians. In contrast, some politicians ( you can guess which ones ) spoke of a coup.
In February 2023, President Saied had once again thrown the stick in the hornet's nest when he stated that there is a criminal plan to change Tunisia's demography
And if all this was not enough, President Saied also made it known that he will no longer accept US dollar as a reserve currency and will continue to trade with Russia and China in their currencies. One can imagine that the Americans do not like to hear such thing.
What can we expect in the short or medium term ?
President Saied will die unexpectedly. That too is already being neatly prepared by the press. Since April 4 2023 he is reportedly experiencing very serious health problems and has been admitted to intensive care at a military hospital in Tunis. The serious health problems have started to manifest by coincidence 3 days after his public rejection of the IMF.
If he does not die, we can expect a lot of riots, demonstrations and unrest in Tunisia where Saied will eventually be ousted or there will at least be a serious attempt as we have seen with President Assad in Syria and President Tokayev in Kazakhstan. Both attempts failed thanks to Russia's intervention.
Nothing is what it seems. It never is.
