A staggering number of people believe that happiness lies in acquiring money, status, material stuff. We work ourselves an entire life to death to achieve that goal. More, more and more. Enough is never good enough.
Society has been structured for decades in such a way that people are assessed, and unfortunately also judged on their status and what they have, instead of who they are as human beings.
Just be is not enough. You are only somebody when you are high up on the social ladder and have achieved something in life worth mentioning.
The reason why so many people are depressed and feel bad about themselves is not far off. Society is set up in such a way that the vast majority pursue ghosts. They look exclusively at what they don"t have and want they want instead of looking at the many things they do have.
Those who manage to surround themselves in material stuff live in an illusion of happiness. In fact, happiness is not in materiality. It can at most, for a very brief moment, give a short sense of satisfaction and then yet the object or yet another conquest, ends up in a closet where it falls under a layer of dust and is forgotten. Like everything else that is already there.
Happiness is in the little things. You make your own happiness. Not with big achievements and fat bankaccounts but with the little things of every day. The sun, the rain, the wind, the singing birds in your garden, the green grass, the beautiful flowers and plants, a laughing child, a pet making funny faces, a nice meal or a drink. That's all it should be, right ?
And yes, we all have bills to pay and stress when the money to pay those bills is not there or not on time but there are solutions to that too. Put the stress in the closet and ask for a feasible repayment plan or dispute if you feel the bill is not correct. Don't incur special expenses if there are no funds available. You don't necessarily have to go to a concert or an amusement park where you have to cough up 150 euros or more. You are perfectly capable of cooking delicious and healthy meals with little money. You don't necessarily have to take on an extra job. With good budget management, you can go a long way.
Get out of the rat race and enjoy yourself as much as possible for the time that is left. Every second that passes never comes back.
