Garbage collectors strike against pension reform. Not only in Paris but all over the country. Garbage has not been picked up for more than a week. Paris has degenerated into a stinking garbage dump that Macron and his vassals don't care about. Other sectors also remain on persistent strike, including the fire and police departments. The country is almost fully in shut down since mid-January.
The day before yesterday, the French Senate adopted the pension reform bill, insofar as it concerns the raising of the retirement age, and sent it to the Chamber for a vote. There is no agreement yet on all other points.
For weeks now, all French TV channels and newspapers have been exploding of coverage of the pension reform, which is obviously about much more than simply raising the retirement age.
It is particularly strange that the Flemish mainstream media only talks about strikes for the sake of raising the retirement age which is only a minor point of opposition. See previous articles for more details.
If Macron goes ahead with his plans, it cannot be ruled out that the resistance will turn into a civil war.
Spicy detail : In 2019, Ursula von der Leyen transmitted, via a circular, a European recommendation to its member states, including France, stressing the need to reform pension systems. A recommendation in not binding but what do we see happening in France and Belgium ? A reform of pensions. Nations no longer have sovereignty. They act on instructions of the EU.
