After " The Line " now a second Smart City project.
Saudi Arabia is building a giant cube in the middle of a new city center in the capital Riyadh, the latest in a long line of curiously shaped structures and cities planned by the kingdom.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the project in mid-February 2023 and announced that he will become chairman of the New Murabba Development Company, which aims to develop "the world's largest modern inner city in Riyadh".
The new indoor supercity will be a state-of-the-art entertainment, dining and shopping space as part of the New Murabba development, which will be the world's largest modern city center.
The project will include a museum, a technical and design university, an immersive theater and more than 80 entertainment venues.
At its center is "The Mukaab", which translates as cube, a mammoth structure 400 meters long, wide and deep, consisting of overlapping triangular shapes, in a building style inspired by the Najd region of Saudi Arabia.
The Mukaab will be "the world's first immersive, experiential destination", complete with "digital and virtual technology with the latest holographic techniques".
