INVENTOR SPUTNIK V VACCINE STRANGLED TO DEATH IN HIS FLAT

The official version :

The Russian virologist who developed the country's COVID vaccine has been found dead in his flat after an altercation with an intruder.

Andrey Botikov, one of the 18 scientists who developed the Sputnik V vaccine at the Gamaleya National Research Centre, has been identified as the man who was found strangled in his home on Rogova Street on 2 March. It was earlier reported that he had survived the attack.

The Investigative Committee of Russia (ICR) has now opened a murder investigation, and believes that a 29-year-old man strangled the scientist with a belt during an argument before fleeing.

Although official statements point to a burglary gone wrong, the 47-year-old man's death coincides with a string of members of Russia's elite who have been found dead under mysterious circumstances over the past year, including scientists and businessmen.

Botikov had worked as a virologist at the Gamaleya National Research Centre since 2014, and was part of the team responsible for the national vaccine - which Russia claimed had 91 per cent efficacy in clinical trials, much higher than other vaccines.

The unofficial version :

Putin handled it swiftly.
