Following Finland's accession to NATO, Helsinki and Washington have negotiated a bilateral agreement that would allow the US to use Finnish military bases, writes Helsingin Sanomat magazine.
The agreement would allow the US to station equipment and build infrastructure on Finnish territory, although the exact parameters of the deal are not yet known. According to BBC News Russia, the agreement would allow the US to establish military bases in Finland.
According to Helsingin Sanomat, the proposed deal would be similar to agreements the US has with other NATO countries, such as Norway, where the US military has invested $170 million in an airport it uses near Oslo.
Mikael Antell, deputy head of the Finnish Foreign Ministry's political department, confirmed that negotiations on the deal were currently underway. He did not disclose details, but stressed that the agreement ensures smooth and swift cooperation with the US.
Of course. The intention has always been that the US would stuff Finland with US troops and military installations, in order to further enclose Russia. The US also tried that with Kazakhstan which has the longest border with Russia but Finland ( and Sweden whose accession to Nato is also in the works ) is fine too.
And... the world is watching and just lets it happen.
