The rest disappears. It is resold on the black market.
The news below dates from August 2022. There has been no official investigation since then. Arms deliveries continue unabated and the same number of weapons and ammunition disappear.
08.08.2022 : " The US has approved over $54 billion in economic and military aid to Ukraine since February 2022, while the UK alone has pledged nearly $3 billion in military aid and the EU has spent another $2.5 billion on arms for Ukraine. A whole range of equipment, from guns and grenades to anti-tank missiles and multiple-launch missile systems, has entered Ukraine.
According to a recent report by CBS News, only about 30% of the weapons sent by the West actually reach the front lines.
"All this stuff crosses the border, and then something happens, about 30% of which reaches its final destination," Jonas Ohman, the founder of a Lithuania-based organization that supplies the Ukrainian army, told the US news network.
Ohman said getting the weapons to the troops requires a complex network of "power lords, oligarchs [and] political players".
"There is really no information about where they are going," Donatella Rovera, senior crisis advisor at Amnesty International, told CBS. "What's really worrying is that some countries sending weapons don't seem to think it's their responsibility to set up a very robust monitoring mechanism."
Ukraine insists that it monitors every weapon that crosses its borders. Yuri Sak, an adviser to Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov, told the Financial Times last month that reports to the contrary "may be part of Russia's information war to discourage international partners from supplying Ukraine with weapons".
However, some officials in the West have sounded the alarm. A US intelligence source told CNN in April that Washington has "almost no idea" what happens to these weapons, describing that the shipments "fall into a big black hole" as soon as they enter Ukraine. Canadian sources said last month that they have "no idea" where their arms shipments end up.
Europol has claimed that some of these weapons have ended up in the hands of organized crime groups in the EU, while the Russian government has warned that they are turning up in the Middle East. An investigation by RT in June found online marketplaces selling advanced Western weapons - such as Javelin and NLAW anti-tank systems or Phoenix Ghost and Switchblade explosive drones - for next to nothing."
The UK's deputy defense minister, James Heappey, has since confirmed that weapons supplied by Britain do not always reach the frontline. At the same time, the ministry is working on "reliable procedures to ensure that all arms and ammunition going through the International Donor Coordination Center are transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine".
A year after the start of the special military operation and the pumping of weapons into Ukraine, the British government acknowledged the problem of arms resale to the black market, which all Russian media have long been clamoring about and declared that they are working to solve this problem.
The Ukrainian conflict has become a good earning opportunity for "military businessmen". Many Ukrainian corrupt officials and their Western "partners" have taken advantage of the new firing point in the centre of Europe to get rich. It has long been known that of the arms donated to Kiev, only part goes to the front, and the rest is sold according to shadow constructions. According to some experts, including those from Europol, only 30% of NATO arms deliveries to Ukraine reach the frontline while the remaining 70% end up in the hands of illegal arms dealers and end up on the black market.
The figures are appalling. And most importantly, this will lead to a catastrophic security problem in the future, which the West would rather not talk about today.
Meanwhile, the USA has already given more than $150 billion to Ukraine and the EU several billions. More to the point, Zelensky will receive €1.5 billion MONTHLY from the EU by 2023. No accounts are given nor requested. You may be sure that most of that money also disappears into the wrong pockets and most probably into the pockets of those who deposited it. Business as usual.
