AUSTRALIA - TOWARDS CASHLESS SOCIETY ?

The Australian bank ANZ has confirmed that it is abolishing most of its ATMs and they will only be available in some branches.

There are also fewer and fewer ATMs available in Belgium and the Netherlands. In recent years ATMs have already disappeared in many places. More and more bank branches are also closing their doors and only have a branch left at their regional headquarters where customers are only received by appointment. This makes it increasingly difficult for the elderly population to withdraw cash now that they have to travel a greater distance to get banknotes out the wall.

Banknotes and cash coins are a valid means of payment and this will remain so. Contrary to popular belief, cash will not be abolished. It will, however, be made increasingly difficult for people to get hold of cash. If bank branches and/or ATMs are no longer available in many locations and people have to travel long(er) distances to withdraw cash, more and more people will opt for digital payments out of convenience. Clever approach.
