On Tuesday, 28 March 2023, US prosecutors unveiled a new indictment against Sam Bankman-Fried, accusing the founder of the now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange of bribery. According to the indictment, Bankman-Fried ordered the payment of $40 million worth of cryptocurrency to a private wallet from Alameda's main trading account, in order to persuade Chinese government authorities to release Alameda's accounts containing more than $1 billion worth of cryptocurrency.

Prosecutors argue that they had frozen the Alameda accounts at an earlier stage as part of an investigation into an unnamed counter party of Alameda, and that Bankman-Fried's previous attempts to lobby Chinese officials to lift the freeze were unsuccessful. They also said Bankman-Fried authorized a transfer of tens of millions of dollars of additional cryptocurrency around November 2022 to "complete" the bribe.

The new bribery charges increase the pressure on the 31-year-old former billionaire, who now faces a 13-count indictment over the collapse of FTX in November 2022. He pleads not guilty on eight of the 13 charges.

Prosecutors had previously accused Bankman-Fried of stealing billions of dollars in customer funds to cover losses at his Alameda Research hedge fund, and organizing an illegal campaign donation to buy influence in Washington, D.C. He has not yet been arraigned for these offenses.

Good. What exactly is going on here ? Why this witch-hunt ?

Distraction from the real problem. FTX was primarily a money laundering machine for the US deepstate and democrats. Much of the US tax money that Ukraine received was laundered through FTX. Ukrainian oligarchs bought cryptos at FTX, sending the money back to the democrats and deepstate minus their commission.

It all started with the so-called " Aid to Ukraine "

In March 2022, the Ukrainian government set up a crypto donation website, allowing Kyiv to convert contributions of digital tokens into fiat money that would be deposited with the National Bank of Ukraine. The Ukrainian government stuck to a target of $200 million. By October 2022, it had raised more than $60 million.

The contributed funds were used to purchase everything needed for the war effort, including digital rifle scopes, medical supplies, field rations, fuel, military clothing and other critical items.

The initiative, known as "Aid for Ukraine", received support from FTX, strike outfit Everstake, and Ukraine's Kuna grant. It is supported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

"At the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, FTX found it necessary to provide help in every possible way. By setting up payment rails and facilitating the conversion of crypto-donations into fiat currency, FTX enabled the Central Bank of Ukraine to deliver aid and resources to the people who need it most," Bankman-Fried said in a statement in March 2022. "We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Sergey [Vasylchuk] and the Everstake team as they continue tirelessly to help Ukrainians in this conflict."

A few days after the start of cooperation between Ukraine and FTX, US President Joe Biden announced an additional $800 million in security assistance to Ukraine. In total, the US is estimated to have given more than $60 billion to Kiev.

Then a tweet appeared on Twitter claiming that the whole thing was a set-up to launder money:

Bankman-Fried was the second largest Democratic donor for the 2021-22 cycle with $39.8 million. This was after George Soros' donations of,a total of $128 million.

Bankman-Fried gave the most money to the Protect Our Future PAC, a group that "supported Democratic candidates such as Peter Welch, who won his bid to become Vermont's next senator, and Robert J. Menendez of New Jersey, who secured a House seat," according to Fortune.

But last summer, Bankman-Fried suggested that he could have spent $1 billion in the midterm elections to support Democrats, although he came back on this proposal. And therein lies the problem.

In the first half of 2022, he did still donate $865,000 to the Democratic National Committee and $66,500 to the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee as well as $250,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, but ... the big money stayed out. That money is parked in the Alameda account and the Americans - notwithstanding a seizure - cannot reach it. The fact that FTX is now bankrupt does not make things any easier.

Everything that has happened between Bankman-Fried, FTX, Ukraine and the Democrats has raised eyebrows. Billionaire CEO Elon Musk is also intrigued by the latest developments.

Was FTX used to launder money for the Democratic Party?" asked a Twitter user. Musk replied, "A question worth asking."
